12 THE MEADOWS- Future (1969)

Emerging from The Combo Four, the teenager dance band The Meadows formed in Neudörfl, Burgenland in 1966. After the group could win two highly prestigious band contests, they went into the recording studio in 1969, and thus became the first Burgenland Beat band to document their oeuvre for the generations to come. During a session at the Polyphon studio, which was located in the basement of Konzerthaus Vienna, the group cut the Psychedelic-inspired Folk Beat ballad “Future”, which came into the world later the same year as the A side for their first 7" self-released single.

While today’s listener easily recognizes one of the most compelling releases of the Schnitzelbeat era, it did not garner much media attention back in the day, which probably also owed to its incredibly small run. In their further career, the Meadows released one more 7" single, before “Burgenland‘s most popular Beat and Dance band” (to quote a press release) finally disbanded in 1976.
